We love honey and we've been looking for a great honey from abroad for a while now. We finally got our hands on some and it doesn't disappoint. SerraMel dates back to its origins just outside of Lisbon in the late 1890's. Now its a thriving producer of some of Portugals best honeys. All produced from their 52,000 acre preserve in the Serra Da Malcata. Every area of the property produces a specific style honey.
Oak Honey-We are a huge fan of oak and quite frankly I’ve never seen an oak specific honey before so it was a must. This honey is only produced two months out of the year when the acorn flowers are in bloom. The resulting honey is a dark, rich, malty, creamy honey that is slightly less sweet that regular honey. It is a truly unique must try product.
Rosemary Honey- There is something natural about the combination of honey and rosemary. Perhaps its simply because both often times are readily available in the wild. This honey is made in the heart of Portugal where the hives are placed among wild growing rosemary forests to give it that unique taste.
Honey with Pollen- Serramel does an amazing job of collecting bee pollen as well through there honey gathering process. This small batch of honey they take the pollen and whip it into the honey to form a sort of super food. The honey contains about 10% pollen that is high in amino acids, lipids, vitamins and minerals.
Honey with Propolis- This honey is when we start talking the medical benefits of honey and obviously we aren't doctors! LOL Propolis is found in the resin of many tree bearing flowers and is collected by the bees at certain times of the year. Propolis is often recommended as a use of anti inflammatory aid. As someone who suffers from asthma taking a spoonful daily has been suggested to me un the past. But besides all that its super delicious too!
